The Good News of Jesus Christ

Who He Is and What He Came to Do

The Good News of Jesus Christ

The Gospel, or “Good News,” is central to the Christian faith. It tells of Jesus Christ — the Son of God — who came to earth to reveal the Father’s love and to provide salvation for all. This article explores Jesus Christ as fully God and fully man and the transformative power of His life, death, and resurrection.

1. Jesus Christ: Fully God and Fully Man

From the start, Jesus was God incarnate — God Himself living among us. John 1:1–2 describes this: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” This highlights Jesus’ eternal nature and divine unity.

In love, God sent His Son as a man. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14, NIV). Jesus took on human form, faced trials and temptations like us, yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15, NIV). His life showed humility, compassion, and self-sacrifice. As fully God and man, Jesus bridged the gap between humanity and God, showing the way to eternal life.

2. The Significance of His Coming to Earth

Jesus entered the world for a greater purpose — to save us from sin and death. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10, NIV). His mission: to reconcile a holy God with sinful humanity.

Jesus demonstrated God’s heart — His love, mercy, and grace. Through His teachings and compassion, He revealed the Kingdom of God. But God’s ultimate love showed through the cross. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, NIV).

3. The Transformative Power of His Life, Death, and Resurrection

Jesus’ life overflowed with love, wisdom, and healing. He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and raised the dead. His greatest act of love was dying on the cross. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, NIV).

Jesus’ death was the beginning of new life for believers. “But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said’” (Matthew 28:5–6, NIV). Jesus’ resurrection was a victory over death and sin. Through it, He offers us eternal life. “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25, NIV).

Jesus’ resurrection is the cornerstone of faith. It guarantees our resurrection and victory over sin and death. His triumph assures us that we, too, can overcome Him. “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55, NIV).

4. The Call to Respond to Jesus

Jesus came to save the lost, but each person must respond. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, NIV). This is the Gospel’s heart: acknowledging Jesus as Lord and believing in His resurrection leads to salvation.

His life, death, and resurrection are not just history — they let us experience new life. “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV). Jesus gives a fresh start. His forgiveness cleanses us and empowers us for a life of hope and purpose.

Conclusion

The Good News is that Jesus is fully God and man, sent to offer eternal life. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He reconciles us to God and empowers us with transforming love. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8, NIV). His message is unchanged; salvation remains available to all who believe.

Reflect on who Jesus is and what He came to do — the invitation remains. The Good News is not just a story; it is a life-changing reality. Will you accept His offer of eternal life today?
